Commencement Ceremony

Please check the university commencement page for details about each semester's ceremony and requirements.

Doctoral candidates wear a scarlet and grey gown and black tam as the official commencement regalia. You can get the tam, hood and gown through the Ohio State  Bookstore in the Enarson Classroom Building or the Ohio State Barnes & Noble in the South Campus Gateway. Fees are due at the time the order is placed.

Hoods are awarded to doctoral candidates by their advisor or a dean of the Graduate School as part of the commencement ceremony. If you purchase an upgraded hood, it will arrive with your robe. Carry it over your arm.

Name Changes
  • Any name changes to your record need to be completed with the Student Service Center.
  • Check your name using the “Find People” feature on the Ohio State main page. The name that appears is the name that will be on the diploma.
  • Changing a name in the Student Center through BuckeyeLink will not change the name printed on your diploma.
