Congratulations, Graduates!

Patrick S. Osmer — August 06, 2015

Congratulations to the 718  graduate students who will be awarded their graduate degrees August 9. It is my privilege to read the names of each PhD recipient when they cross the commencement stage to receive their diploma from President Drake and to greet master’s students as they receive their diplomas from the Graduate School deans.

Commencement is always a heartfelt occasion as we recognize your accomplishments and look forward to what you will do next. This semester's ceremony will be bittersweet for me because it is my last as dean of the Graduate School. At the end of the month, I am returning to my activities in science as a faculty member in astronomy.

These past nine years as dean have been some of the most inspiring and gratifying of my career. It has been a privilege to get to know so many of you and to work with colleagues across campus, nationally, and internationally who are equally committed to graduate education.

I look forward to hearing great things about you and your work as you take this next step. Stay in touch with us.

Patrick S. Osmer is vice provost for graduate studies and dean of the Graduate School at Ohio State. He is a past chair of the board of directors for the Council of Graduate Schools. Osmer was chair of the Ohio State astronomy department from 1993-2006.
