Graduate programs in USNWR listings

Patrick S. Osmer — March 14, 2013

Pat Osmer

I am pleased to recognize Ohio State’s graduate programs that were listed in the top 10 last week by U.S. News and World Report. The USNWR profiles provide useful information and resources for potential graduate applicants, and more details are available here http://www.osu.edu/news/newsitem3645

In the Graduate School, we pay attention to many indicators of a graduate program’s quality. This is as much art as it is science. Our graduate faculty identify the goals and foci for the graduate programs, keeping In mind the requirements of a particular discipline or interdisciplinary approach, the expertise of the faculty, and research and career opportunities in both the academic and non-academic environments.

In my view, outcomes—the research that is produced and shared and the careers that our graduates follow--are the best indicators of a graduate program’s quality.

Look for that information, and encourage prospective graduate students to look for it when they are considering their options. And, once you have earned your graduate degree from Ohio State, share information about your career pathways with your graduate program. We understand and value the full range of career options you may follow, and I know that your graduate degree is an essential part of the creativity and knowledge that you will bring to all your endeavors.

Patrick S. Osmer is vice provost for graduate studies and dean of the Graduate School at Ohio State. He is also currently serving as chair of the board of directors for the Council of Graduate Schools. Osmer was chair of the Ohio State astronomy department from 1993-2006.

Thanks for this! We’ve been building an ed resource at http://UniversityWebinars.org too. Bringing together some of the best speech & lecture videos from top universities for use for higher ed faculty, staff, and students. It’s a good free resource for courses, learning, or professional development. Feel free to share or blog it if you find it useful.

My partner and I absolutely love your blog and find nearly all of your post's to be exactly what I'm looking for. Do you offer guest writers to write content for yourself? I wouldn't mind producing a post or elaborating on a few of the subjects you write about here. Again, awesome web site! Howdy! Quick question that's entirely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My weblog looks weird when browsing from my apple iphone. I'm trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to resolve this problem. If you have any recommendations, please share. Cheers! Kennith http://stylio.pl/moja-szafa/?userId=137428
